  • Following another record-breaking PDC World Darts Championship on Sky Sports last month and ahead of the 2025 Premier League Darts season starting this week, Sky and the Professional Darts Corporation have announced a five-year partnership extension keeping Sky Sports as the home of darts until 2030, marking nearly 40 years of collaboration. The new deal will include over 60 days of exclusively live coverage from the biggest darts tournaments every year including the PDC World Darts Championship, Premier League, World Matchplay, Grand Slam of Darts, World Grand Prix and World Cup of Darts. Sky has been the long-term broadcast partner of the PDC since 1993 and has played an integral role in the sport's growth and evolution over this time. Viewing reached new heights last year when a record audience of over 4.8m people tuned in to watch the 2023/24 PDC World Darts Championship final between Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, with a peak audience of 3.71m, the highest ever non-football peak on Sky Sports.

Darts is played professionally in over 92 countries and is recognized by the Global Association of International Sports Federations ( GAISF). Although it is not currently recognized by the IOC, which is required for any sport that wants to make it into the Olympics, that is likely to change over the next decade as the World Darts Federation continues to push for its inclusion in the games The Darts game is simple. Although it takes years of practice to master, it can be played by anyone, regardless of age, sex, and gender. Moreover, the rules are also simple and it’s extremely easy and fun to watch. Take all these factors together and you have one of the most inclusive sports out there. It’s no wonder that it’s such a popular game. Of course, to be any good at it requires a ton of skill and concentration.

    • The throwing line (oche) must be placed at a distance of 7 feet 9.25 inches (2.37 meters) from the dartboard.
    • Players must not step over the oche while throwing. Any dart thrown while stepping over the line will be considered a foul and will not count toward the score.
    • The bullseye must be positioned at a height of 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 meters) from the floor to the center of the dartboard.
    • The board must be securely mounted on a flat vertical surface.
    • Throwing Stance: Players can stand in any comfortable stance as long as at least one foot remains behind the oche while throwing.
    • Foul Throws: If a player crosses the throwing line while releasing the dart, the throw is considered invalid and will not be scored.
    • Dartboard & Setup: The dartboard must be an official standard board, and the throwing distance must be accurately measured before play begins.
    • Referee Decision: Any disputes regarding foot placement or throw validity will be resolved by the game referees.

    Darts Scoring Method

    Darts is typically played with a standard board that has numbered sections from 1 to 20, plus the bullseye. Each section has:

    • Single (outer area of a section) – face value (e.g., hitting the 20 gives 20 points).
    • Double (thin outer ring) – double the value (e.g., hitting the double 20 gives 40 points).
    • Triple (thin inner ring) – triple the value (e.g., hitting the triple 20 gives 60 points).
    • Bullseye: Outer bullseye (green) – 25 points -- o Inner bullseye (red) – 50 points.
      • 501 Game Rules & How to Finish
    • Each player starts with 501 points and must reduce their score to exactly 0.
    • Players take turns throwing three darts per turn and subtract the total score from their remaining points.
    • The game must end with a double (hitting a double ring that lands exactly at 0).
